Kris Daff
Managing Director
As Managing Director of Assemble and Make Ventures (MAKE), Kris Daff has over 20 years of experience as a leader in Australia’s property development industry, community housing sector and real estate markets. Kris imparts extensive experience in financial structuring across all industry sectors with a focus on residential development.
After a 15-year career across government and industry, Kris launched strategic property investment company MAKE in 2014 which today has a demonstrated track record in managing highly complex planning processes.
MAKE is the major shareholder alongside AustralianSuper in Assemble, which was created in 2018 as an occupant-centric, affordable Build to Rent (BTR) development and community management company focused on delivery of projects.
By 2018, Assemble launched its first development under the Assemble Futures housing model – a Build to Rent to Own pathway to homeownership for working Australians with moderate household incomes.
In 2020, Kris formed a joint venture with Housing Choices Australia for the development and operation of the largest privately funded portfolio of social and affordable Build to Rent housing in the nation’s history, comprising $1.5b of investment in over 3,000 homes.
Under his leadership at Assemble and MAKE, Kris has built a team of 45 people and lead the acquisition of the single largest portfolio of institutionally financed affordable housing in the country. Kris has been instrumental in creating partnerships with industry, faith-based organisations and the finance sector to leverage forces to deliver real change in the housing market.
Kris is committed to continued research and innovation in the property sector and shares his experience in alternative housing models as a way of improving affordability.
He supports several not-for-profit housing initiatives such as Homes for Homes and Housing Hive by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation.
Matt Ablethorpe
Chief Investment Officer
Matt is Chief Investment Officer of Make Ventures. He has over 16 years in the industry and holds both a Bachelor of Planning & Design and Bachelor of Property Construction with Honours from The University of Melbourne. Matt is a qualified Valuer and associate of the Australian Property Institute.
Before Make, Matt worked within a private property consultancy and valuation practice and within the ISPT Development and Opportunity Funds. In this capacity, Matt was responsible for site acquisition assessment, financial modelling, feasibility and risk analysis, due diligence and project strategy implementation including design, planning, stakeholder engagement, sales and marketing coordination and project delivery.
